Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery

Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery holds an impressive collection of over 18,000 objects. These objects represent Merthyr Tydfil’s rich social, political, industrial and cultural heritage and its history as an Iron Town at the heart of the Industrial Revolution.

The collection also features a wide range of artefacts from around the world, many generously gifted by the town’s citizens. The collection is varied and eclectic; from the world’s first steam whistle to Ancient Egyptian grave goods; from Hoover washing machines to 20th Century oil paintings.

We do not have space to display all of these objects at the same time and rotate objects that are on display with those in storage. You can view a wide range of objects and artwork from our collection on the People’s Collection and Art UK websites, by following the links below.

If you would like to view a particular item in our collection, please get in touch to find out if it is currently on display. Our collection stores are located off-site, therefore if you would like to view an object that is not on display, please get in touch via our collection enquiries page.
